Artist Profiles

Male Vocalists

Madhu , is a scintillating voice in the Indian light music scene. His concert technique, and voice culture are one of a kind. Madhu's voice and his style of rendition is reminiscent of Dr.SP Balasubramaniam who is his idol. He has the distinction of performing as the lead singer with almost all the top ranked artistes of South India including Smt.P.Susheela, Smt.S.Janaki, Smt.Chitra, Smt.L.R. Easwari, Sri.Mano, Smt.B.K.Sumithra.He has the distinction of performing at the Symphony Hall (First Asian to perform) in Birmingham, UK, in five languages with famous female playback singer Smt. S. Janaki.

 

Raju Idury has been a music lover since childhood and learned briefly Carnatic and Hindustani styles of classical music while pursuing his College and University education at Narsapur and Nagpur respectively. He was inspired by Ghantasala and Mohd Rafi whom he admired and emulated their styles while singing their songs in his performances. He has been more of a self-taught singer performing on the stage and in private parties in India, in the Middle East and in North America. He actively toured and performed in North America mainly for Telugu people and a few North Indians and their associations including BATA, TANA, ATA, TASC and Silicon Andhra etc. since 1985. He has time and again offered his talent to non-profit and charitable organizations. Raju Idury won numerous trophies and was honored by his admirers. He has his own music group called Sadhana.

 

Ravi Gudipati is a lead singer and coordinator for Sruthi, bay area's Telugu musical troup. He has been singing since his childhood and has given many performances in TANA, San Diego Telugu Association, LA Telugu Association, BATA, Silicon Andhra and also private parties.

He is a lead male singer for a recently released devotional CD “SHIRDI-THIRUMALA” with Smt.Vani Jayaram and Smt. SP.Sailaja which was released all over Andhra Pradesh, India

 

 

 

Prabhu's unquenchable passion for music, his undying penchant and diligent dedication for singing in particular has helped carve a niche for himself as a highly established singer both locally and across national boundaries. Endowed with a palette of vocal nuances, he has mesmerized the audience with the apt portrayal of Yesudas's mellifluousness, S.P.B's vivaciousness and patina of select renditions from singers of repute, present and erstwhile. His laudable talents have been well recognized and appreciated when he shared the limelight with doyens of the music industry like singers Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Smt. P.Susheela, music directors M.S. Viswanathan, Deva and also by lending his voice to several premier television shows. His ability to sing different genres of music and in languages more than one, like, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi with equal élan, stands as a testimony to his versatility. He has cut devotional albums, the proceeds of which are being channeled towards human welfare by reputed organizations. .

 

Female Vocalists

Usha came like a breath of fresh air on the Telugu film music scene.She won A.P state's prestigious Nandi Award twise in a very short time.She was introduced to Film industry through the talent search programmes like ETV 'Paduta Teeyaga'. She is well know playback singer worked under popular banners and famous music directers like Keeravani,IllayaRaj,RP Patnaik,Koti etc..

 

 

Arathi Murali, hails from a musical family and has been actively performing both in classical and light music programmes. Arathi featured in the Star Search Radio Program of "Anil-Ki-Awaaz" in NJ. She has provided playback for Tele Serials and has been performing in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi light music shows. She has released her solo maiden classical album "Pranamanjali" a collection of Navarathna krithis of “Purandaradasa”. Apart from singing talents,Arathi is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer.

 

Gayatri Avvari was introduced to music at a very tender age by her parents Smt. Rajyalakshmi and Sri Koteswararao Tangirala. She began her formal training in carnatic music under Smt. Padmavati of Hyderabad at the age of twelve. Later she continued her musical studies with Smt. Neeta Chandrashekhar, currently a music lecturer in Telugu University. She successfully completed a special course on Annamacharya Sankeertanas with Vidushini Smt. Shobha Raju, who holds honorary doctorate for her research on the same. In 1992, she continued her advanced classical training with renowned Divyanama Sankeertanam exponent, Veda Thiruvaiyaru Sri S. R. Krishnan in Los Angeles. Gayatri has performed in numerous organizations in India , Los Angeles and San Francisco . She is well-known for her exposition of Annamacharya Kritis and currently continues her research of the same.

Kavitha Nagarajan was one of the most popular singers in her school band, Tech Music at PSG Tech, Coimbatore. Once on the stage and behind the microphone, she is a total crowd pleaser. In one instance, at a cultural meet, she impressed the audience and judges to such an extent that they created a prize especially for her. She has held many a college crowds in beguilement with either her peppy numbers like Dilruba or Margo, or the more sensuous ones like ‘Anubhavam puthumai…’

She gets her love and talent for music from her grandmother who is a composer and singer. She started singing light music from 1994. Although she has not been formally trained, she sure has all the right genes and is a natural. Lately, Kavitha has started taking formal Classical lessons with Ragavan Manian. She likes to experiment with new voices and a variety of songs. She sings over a wide range of voices, and adds to it, a little of herself, for the audience to enjoy.

Sridevi Podury,a software engineer by profession , Has been singing from childhood under the guidance of her father.She was encouraged in music with awards from renowned organisations like sangeet kala parishat, rotary ,leo. Actively performing in radio programs, live music shows for various associations and charity fund raisers all over u.s and in vancouver – canada, she sings in multiple languages. As she puts it, music is her greatest source of energy.

 

KeyBoard

Rajkumar Venkat is a self-learned keyboardist with a keen ear for light music. He picked up playing the keyboard during his undergrad days and went on to become the lead keyboardist for the college music band "TekMusik", winning several inter-college music competitions during that time. His career then led him into the Silicon Valley and has since been very active in the Bay Area light music circles and performs for bands like "Surabhee", "Bandits", "Induz" and “Soortal" to name a few. Further to live performances, Raj has taken to experimenting with multi-track MIDI sequencing and hopes to host a MIDI song page soon. He has also tried his hand at composing and has composed a couple of songs for one of the recent NRI Bollywood movies. Raj is a software architect by profession and gets ample support and encouragement from his wife, Shuba, a violinist herself, on all his musical endeavors.

Guitar

Magesh Ranganathan has been fiddling with 6-strings for a long time now – playing in school, IIT and pro bands in Chennai. Occasionally, he has been spotted playing
the drums too. After a long hiatus, he started strumming again for Bay Area bands.

His love for music is matched only by his craze for 2-wheels. An avid motorcyclist who has left no road unturned, he also spends time torturing himself on the local mountains trying to scale them on his bicycle.

His family is in tune as well. His wife SriPriya is a well known Bharathanatyam teacher in Pleasanton and his daughter Shreya is aspiring to be a pianist and Carnatic singer.

 

Bass Guitar

Farhan Mohamed plays bass, fingerpicking style guitars and keyboards. He holds degrees in audio engineering, music production and computer music and is the inventor of a piano composition tool called KEYed. He works as a music engineer at Muse Research in Menlo Park building a sound module called the Receptor for bands like Dreamtheater, U2, Toto, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Paul McCartney Band and Eminem to name a few. He is also the music supervisor for the academy award winning composer Howard Shore on his upcoming soundtrack, Soul of the Ultimate Nation. On the side, he performs with Pallavi, Thillana, and is currently writing the next Aquamarines surf album.

 

Drums

 

Venky Subramanyam Venky has been closely associated with music right from his childhood days. As an active participant at school, college and university levels, he has won prizes in various competitions. Before his arrival in the U.S., he has organized, conducted and participated in shows held both in India and in Jamaica. Though he considers percussion his forte (drums, conga, tabla and mridangam), he has shown equal flair for guitar and keyboard. His chief passion and interest lies in composing, and his talent has been put to productive use by other cultural organizations within the Bay Area. Currently he is working on creating a ghazal album.

Anjan Srinivas is an avid music lover and dramatist. He has performed with many bay area bands as a percussionist. He also enjoys event management and traveling.

 

Mrudangam

Ravindrabharathi sees mirdangam as a passion than a hobby. He had his initiation to Mirdangam under Vidwan M.A.Krishnamurthy in Mysore in 1980. Later he continued under Vidwan M.K.Venugopal, a student of Vidwan H.P.Ramachar. During this time he started playing Ghatam and Kanjira. Currently he is undergoing advance training under Vidwan Shriram Brahmanandam in the Bay area.

Ravi has accompanied various artists like Prof. T.V.Gopalakrishnan, Vidushi Smt. Shrimathi Brahmanandam, Vidhshi Smt.Rose Muralikrishnan, Vidushi Smt. Geetha Bennett, Vidushi Smt. Radha Sundereshan, Hemmige V. Srivathsan, his mother Vidushi Smt. Ranganayaki Sridharan and various other artists. Ravi has accompanied Srikanth Chary and his Guru Sri. Shriram Brahmanandam in Srikanth’s latest CD ‘ Tiger and Silk’.

Ravi has been playing of various light music troupe like Pallavi, Raaga and Surabhee. Ravi has performed in AIR Chennai and Sun TV. He has been accompanying for various dance arangetrams and dance ballets.

Ravi also teachs mirdangam in Sruthi Swara laya ( formerly Bharathi kalalaya), Fremont since last 6 years.

 

Tabla

Ravi Gutala is originally from Hyderabad, India and has been initiated at a very early age into Tabla by Shri P.Anjaiah, a senior staff artiste at AIR, Hyderabad, India. Currently he resides in San Jose, California and has been studying Tabla under Maestro Swapan Chaudhuri at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, CA for the past 15 years. He also has been teaching Tabla to a number of aspiring students in the Bay Area. Ravi has won numerous awards and is a recipient of All India National Talent Search Scholarship. He had been a regular performer at AIR, Hyderabad, India between 1982-1986. He has accompanied many noted artistes such as, Pt.Jasraj, Smt.Lakshmi Shankar, Dr.L.Subramaniam, Dr.Rajeev Taranath, Pt.Buddhaditya Mukherjee, Smt.Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Shri Sanjeev Abhayankar, Master Shashank etc. He has 4 CD recordings and many cassette recordings to his credit.Ravi designs semiconductor chips for a living.

 

   
Audio

Atul Vaidya, during his 28 years of technical profession, Atul’s first love has remained music. He has done professional quality sound-mixing and audio management for a variety of events and artists such as-- Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Hariprasaad Chaurasia, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Zakir Hussain, amongst others. Atul has extensive experience in turn-key technical event management, audio-video recording, special effects, and background music for plays and sound management for small house concerts.
