We are establishing a state of the art eye care institution at Shimoga. A 4.5 acres land at Shimoga has been purchased with contributions received from philanthropic families of the region. On this piece of land, by raising support from service organizations and philanthropists Sankara Eye Hospital would be established.

The land is located on  Shimoga- Mangalore Highway, on the outskirts of the Shimoga City and right opposite to the Tunga River.
 

 The Hospital would have 200 beds for free patients and 20 beds for paying patients in the first phase with all other facilities like modern surgical theatre complex and the ophthalmic diagnostic wing.  Like all other SEF hospitals, this Hospital in Shimoga would have the state-of-the-art facilities in eye care, the best of expertise and all subspecialties of ophthalmology.  This hospital will cover the interior Karnataka including Malnad and Northern Karnataka.

Challenged to raise funds to purchase the land, a local group of people from Shimoga rose to the occasion and raised the required funds and also recruited several prominent local Citizens as supporters and Apex body members for Sankara Eye Hospital (SEH)-Shimoga.

It gives us great confidence that there is a motivated local group headed by Dr. Vrinda, Dr. Narendra, Dr. Murty, Dr. Manjunath and others and that the entire Hospital construction and running of the Hospital will be well managed. When we expand to other areas in the country, it is very important to find such a level of local support even before finding the land and starting the construction.
