Lakshmi was a quiet powerhouse. Those of us who have worked alongside her knew her as one of the true souls of Sankara — the kind of person an organization is quietly built around. The way she welcomed every person who walked through our doors — volunteer, donor, or a visitor — was the Sankara brand itself. Her inner values and her work were inseparable. Her smile lit up the world of those around her — and her sincere dedication lit up the lives of millions who were needlessly blind.
Laksmi was also an artist at heart. If you've ever marveled at the fresh flower décor at our Dandias or banquets — the beautiful garlands lovingly placed on Mataji's pictures or the exquisite centerpieces at the gala tables — that was Lakshmi's love made visible.
Volunteers and staff poured their hearts into describing what Lakshmi meant to them: “Silent and sincere”, "always calm and smiling”, “enduring presence and quiet strength", "service before self”, “a gentle quiet soul — always willing to help", “her contagious smile is what I remember”, "simple, sweet, and full of grace."
For Lakshmi, work was truly worship. She was a disciplined force, but one full of gentleness, that made Sankara move — and she will be missed forever.
She leaves behind her loving husband and daughter.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
