Netaji Eye Hospital (NEH), an institutional partner of Sankara Eye Foundation, USA, in West Bengal, is starting operations in Kolkata by constructing a five-storey hospital in the heart of the city. Construction will start from mid-August 2025 and will be operational by mid-2026. The hospital will have an annual free surgery capacity of about 20,000 and a paid surgery capacity of 14,000.

Spread over 21,000 sq ft, the proposed hospital will have a free bed capacity of 70, a paid bed capacity of 20, and six operating theaters.
The Kolkata unit of Netaji Eye Hospital will complement the Purulia unit, which has recently undergone a SEF USA-supported renovation. It is expected to generate substantially higher paid surgery revenue, thereby becoming a critical part of NEH’s plan to be financially self-sufficient. Once complete, the Kolkata hospital will serve a population of over nine million people.
