Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Lays the Foundation Stone of Sankara Eye Hospital, Patna

On July 14, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of the R Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital (RJSEH), Patna, marking an auspicious beginning for Sankara Eye Foundation in the state of Bihar. Supported by Sankara Eye Foundation, USA, and the Rakesh Jhunjhunwala Family, this hospital will have a capacity to perform 30,000 free eye surgeries annually, transforming lives and providing completely free and high-quality eye care to the underprivileged in one of the most underserved states in India.

RJSEH, Patna, will also follow the cross-subsidization model of the Sankara Eye Hospitals, where revenue from paying patients enables the hospital to perform completely free eye surgeries for people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Kumar highlighted the importance of strengthening Bihar's healthcare infrastructure to improve medical services, reducing the need for residents to seek treatment outside the state.

The modern facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology for patient examinations and surgical procedures, is slated for completion by December 2026.
